Senior Scientist, Magnetic Resonance for Brain and Mind Research, CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology, Brno,Czech Republic

CEITEC (www.ceitec.eu), an academic research institution established jointly by Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University in Brno, University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, Institute of Physics of Materials and Veterinary Research Institute, opens a position of a senior MR scientist with an ambition to become a key element in a growing MR team supporting neuroscience research based on human brain MR imaging and spectroscopy in 3T and 7T, and electrophysiologic techniques. The new MR systems, to be installed in 2013, and the MR teamwill form a Molecular and Functional Imaging core facility run by the Brain and Mind Research Programme. These systems, expanding the current tandem of clinical 1.5T and 3T systems of St Anne’s University Hospital, will be dedicated to research. Cooperation with other research programmes and institutions, including preclinical animal research exploiting a 9.4T/30cm scanner, will be supported.

The candidate, holding a PhD degree in a relevant field, should demonstrate: at least 5 years of experience in MR imaging or spectroscopy,and a proven track record of publications in high-impactpeer-reviewed journals, providing evidence of excellence in biomedical MR research and itsapplications. Candidates who can prove success in obtaining extramural research funding and experience in project management, supervising other scientists, collaboration with basic and clinical scientists will be preferred.

The primary duties will include development of new acquisition and data processing methods, new applications in neuroscience research, and their validation. Background in NMR physics, signal detection and processing theory, and experience with MR pulse sequence development are preferred. Experience with fMRI, DTI, MRS or MRSI, and multimodality data analysis will be welcome. Other duties may include teaching, training and supervision of users of the department’s MR systems, local collaboration in animal-human translational research, and development of new ideas in accordance with personal ambitions and the Brain and Mind Research Programme needs. An interest in close collaboration with local experimental groups is essential.

The position is available immediately for an initial period ending on 31. 7. 2014. The beginning of the employment relationshipis negotiable. Renewal of this position will be dependent upon institutional approval, performance and funding possibilities.
