Three days, eleven high school students, six mentors, interesting topics and hours spent in the laboratories of the international research center. Such an opportunity was given to students who took the opportunity to enroll in the historically first Summer School within the CEITEC Student Talent program.

The program, which is gradually being formed at CEITEC BUT, has the task of attracting and exciting young talents for science. Thanks to CEITEC Student Talent, several students have already experienced what it is like to work within a research group and work on a research topic directly in top-equipped laboratories.

The organizers of the Summer School CEITEC Student Talent prepared a three-day work program, which included work in laboratories, but also an excursion to the science center VIDA! or, for example, Movie and Games Night.

The fact that the Summer School was successful and fulfilled its purpose is evidenced by the evaluation of the students who participated. "I learned a lot of interesting things and I really enjoyed it. At the same time, it motivated me to work more on myself and helped with the choice of school in the future. I would definitely apply for the next year again," said student Adéla from SZŠ and VOŠZ Brno, Merhautova.

"Even though the topic was complicated, the trainer explained the material to us perfectly. The Summer School was exactly what I expected and I will definitely try another similar option. I very enjoyed my chosen scientific field," said the student Michal, who dealt with the topic of writing magnetic nanostructures with a focused ion beam in layers of metastable iron.

The CEITEC Student Talent program was established three years ago with the aim of offering high school students the opportunity to systematically participate in the scientific activities of selected research groups. "The summer school was organized for the first time this year. During its preparation, we tried to offer and enable cooperation also to students from more remote regions who cannot regularly commute to our laboratories. We also had to respond to the restrictions in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly limited and dampened the ongoing form of the program in recent semesters. Both forms of the program have proved very useful to us and we plan to support and blend them in the years to come," concludes Stanislav Průša, who is the program coordinator. And also delivers great thanks to the doctoral students who came up with the idea, organizers and support from BUT and CEITEC BUT management.
